Tina Tina Amanda AmandaMaureen loved playing rough athletic games in her youth and excelled in athletics. This passion was combined with an equally natural talent for performing. She received almost every Feis Award in the field of Drama and Theater Performance which her nation had to offer. In the year 14 she was admitted to the famous Abbey Theater and pursued her dream of classical theater as well as operatic singing. Charles Laughton became captivated with her stunningly beautiful eyes when he saw a screen-test. Laughton as well as his partner Erich Pommer changed Maureen FitzSimons name changed her name to "Maureen O'Hara" which was a shorter name for the marquee before casting for her role as an actress in Jamaica Inn, (1939). Maureen was on contract with Laughton to make her next movie in America at RKO Pictures (The Hunchback of Notre Dame, 1939). The contract Maureen signed with Laughton was acquired by RKO when this movie was a great hit. At the age of 19, Maureen had already been in two major motion films in the company of Laughton.
